How to Play Online Freeroll Poker Tournaments
Freeroll poker tournaments offer you chances to win lots of money or free registration to other tournaments without risking a dime of your own. One of the more interesting aspects of freerollers is the ability to practice different tournament theories and strategies without the pressure of recouping your buy in.
Below is a strategy that you can try during your next Freeroll Event. There are three stages: Starting Off, Mid Game, Final Table.
Keep in mind that All-In plays are common in Freeroll and usually they are done very poorly (and can get annoying after awhile). The strategy below lets you ignore the constant All-Ins that happen while, at the same time, take advantage of them to knock other players out.
Starting Off
When To Play: Play until the blinds reach 100/200
Pre-Flop Strategy:
You are looking for strength. Fold the rest.
Any Position:
AA, KK, or AKs: All-In
From Middle to Late Position:
AKo, AQs, AQo, QQ: No more than 6xBB (either opening or calling)
66, 77, 88, 99, TT, or JJ: No more than 4xBB (either opening or calling)
Ax suited, Kx suited, Connectors (suited or unsuited) down to 67: No more than 2xBB (either opening or calling)
From Early Position:
Middle to Late Position cards: Limp
Post-Flop Strategy:
Fold if you don't meet any of the following criteria.
Pair with over cards, Flush or Straight draws: Open 2xBB, Call-Raise up to 4xBB.
Top 2 pair (unpaired board) with no possible draws: Open 4xBB, Re-raise All-In.
Top 2 pair (unpaired board) with possible draws: Open 4xBB, fold raises more than A� your stack, call otherwise.
Sets, Flushes, Straights, etc.: Slow play.
Mid Game
When To Play: Play until Final Table
Pre-Flop Strategy:
Any Position except BB*:
AA, KK, AKs: Open 4xBB, re-raise to 50% of stack.
Don't re-raise from BB - call up to 50% of stack
From Middle to Late Position:
AKo, AQs, AQo, QQ: No more than 4xBB (either opening or calling)
88, 99, TT, JJ, ATo, AJo, KJo, JQo: Open 4xBB. Fold to re-raise.
Ax suited, Kx suited, Connectors (suited or unsuited) down to 89: No more than 2xBB (either opening or calling)
From Early Position:
Middle to Late Position cards: Limp
Post-Flop Strategy:
Fold if you don't meet any of the following criteria.

Final Table
Congratulations: You are at the final table. The strategies will now focus on your stack size.
Serious Short Stack: 1-2 rounds
From The Button: You have a couple of hands to wait before the BB comes. Only go in if you have a chance to win
From Middle To UTG: Go All-In with any pair or face card (suited or unsuited) unless someone in front of you has gone All-In.
Short Stack: 2-4 rounds
Play similar to Serious Short Stack but wait for a stronger hand.
Middle Stack: Chip stack is middle or higher
Play your style and stay on the protective side of your stack against the Big Stack player.
Big Stack: You are the chip leader
Go on the hunt. Put constant pressure on the short stacks. Make them make a mistake. Be careful not to get too aggressive and lose your lead but don't be afraid to use your power.
